Six Advantages of Industrial Switches and Three Troubleshooting Methods

Super anti-interference

Industrial switches have strong anti-interference functions, such as high protection levels in lightning, water, corrosion, and static electricity protection, but commercial switches do not have these functions.

Adopt industrial grade components

Industrial switches have high requirements for product components and can withstand the test of harsh environments, so they can better adapt to industrial environments.

Long service life

Industrial switches use industrial grade solutions from their housings to components, resulting in higher reliability and longer service life, typically exceeding 10 years. Common commercial switches have a service life of approximately 3-5 years.

Wide temperature operation

Industrial switches generally use metal enclosures, which provide better heat dissipation and stronger protection. They can basically meet the temperature range of - 45 to+85 ℃ and can work normally, and can adapt to complex temperatures and humidity. However, the working range of commercial switches is relatively narrow.

Support wide voltage power supply

The poer supply part of the industrial switch adopts DC power supply, which can support the voltage range of DC12 to 57V, and can adapt to different power supply environments, making installation more flexible.

Fast redundancy

Industrial switches generally have the function of fast looping and redundancy, with a redundancy time of less than 20 ms. Although commercial products can also form redundant networks, the cure time can reach 10 to 30 seconds or more, which is too long and not suitable for industrial environments.

Three Troubleshooting Methods for Industrial Exchanges

1. Exclusion method

When we face failure phenomena and analyze problems, we have unconsciously learned to use troubleshooting methods to determine the direction of failure. This method refers to listing all possible faults as comprehensively as possible based on the observed fault phenomena, and then analyzing and eliminating them one by one. When excluding, the principle of "from simplicity to complexity" should be followed to improve efficiency. Using this method can cope with various failures, but maintenance personnel need to have strong logical thinking and a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of industrial switch knowledge.

2. Comparative method

The so-called comparison method refers to using existing Ethernet switches of the same model and capable of normal operation as reference objects to compare them with faulty industrial switches to find out the fault point. This method is simple and effective, especially for system configuration failures. Simply comparing can identify differences in configuration. However, sometimes it is not easy to find a switch with the same model and configuration.

3. Substitution method

The replacement method refers to the method of using normal industrial Ethernet switch components to replace potentially faulty components to find the point of failure. It is mainly used for hardware fault diagnosis, but it should be noted that the replacement components must be similar industrial switches of the same brand and model.
